LONDON, 17 October 2025 – Mr. Baiyu Liu AMBCS FRSA MIoD, President of the King’s College London Students’ Union, announced today the opening of “The Pavilion”, a brand-new study space developed in direct consultation with the student community. The initiative was spearheaded by President Liu, the Estates & Facilities, and Campus Futures teams, fulfilling a key campaign promise to "Make The Space" following the closure of the popular outdoor area, The Meadow.
The new Pavilion provides students with a modern, versatile, and dedicated environment for study and collaboration. Its creation is the result of a successful partnership between the KCLSU and the university's estates teams, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing the student experience on campus.

KCLSU President Baiyu Liu said:

“The closure of The Meadow was felt deeply by our student community, and I made a promise to work tirelessly to replace that vital space. The opening of The Pavilion is a testament to what we can achieve when student voices are heard and acted upon. I am incredibly grateful to the Estates & Facilities and Campus Futures teams for their collaboration and dedication to this project. This is a win for students and a clear sign that King’s is listening.”

The project began after KCLSU’s Student Voice Team consulted extensively with student representatives to understand their needs. This student-led feedback was then presented to and developed in partnership with the university’s operational teams to design a space that meets the diverse requirements of the King’s student body.

A spokesperson for King’s College London’s Estates & Facilities team added: “We were delighted to work with President Liu and the KCLSU to bring The Pavilion to life. Our focus was on creating a high-quality, functional, and welcoming space that supports student success and wellbeing. This collaborative project highlights our ongoing investment in campus facilities and our commitment to providing an outstanding environment for our students.”

The Pavilion is open to all King’s College London students from today.

Promises Made, Promises Kept.
