President Baiyu Liu announces Mid-Autumn mooncake sales

LONDON, 3 October 2025 – Mr. Baiyu Liu AMBCS FRSA MIoD, President of the King’s College London Students’ Union, has announced that as part of the “Diversify the Kitchen” Campaign, KCLSU will be selling mooncakes at the KCLSU student-run “the Shack” cafe from Monday, 6 October 2025, while stocks last.

This scheme is run in collaboration with the King’s College London Association of British and Chinese University Students (“ABACUS”) and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (“CSSA”), who are longstanding representatives of the Chinese community at King’s College London.

CSSA Vice President Hannah Chen said:

“We are glad to be finally represented by this Students’ Union administration, and the wider student community. It offers us no greater relief than knowing KCL takes the needs of our community of 7,000 seriously - we are very touched by this kind gesture. The cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival cannot be overstated. It is a time of unity, family and new beginnings, ringing especially true for our new students. At CSSA, we are keen to deliver the best possible experience for our Chinese students. Having gone through it ourselves, we understand homesickness and we wish our Chinese Freshers the best of luck at King’s.”

President Baiyu Liu said:

“We are glad to bring students such a major win so early on in this administration. We understand the trials and tribulations of Chinese students coming to a new country - it’s on us to offer them a taste of home. Mooncakes have been my favourite part of every Mid-Autumn Festival. I remember gathering together with my loved ones to share mooncakes - we hope to bring this experience to both our Chinese and non-Chinese students as part of the wider KCLSU family.”

“We promised cultural representation and Chinese food in our kitchens - today we are delivering. This is just the beginning - prepare your chopsticks and porcelain soup spoons for much more to come.”

Over 7,000 Chinese students on campus will have the unique opportunity of enjoying a treat from home, as well as countless non-Chinese students being able to savour an underrated facet of Chinese cuisine. This win comes off the back of the successful “China Week” hosted by the university and the Lau China Institute, as well as the major successes of the Digital Degree Certificate programme.

This administration remains committed to delivering a home away from home, and that students from all parts of the world remain welcome at King’s.
